Thank you all for making the 2014 Awards such a great success!
Congratulations to Pippa Blackburn of the WA Country Health Service, the recipient of this year’s WA Social Worker of the Year Award!
This year’s Awards were once again a truly inspirational night with the warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere we have come to expect from this prestigious event. Hosted by MC James Lush and attended by a diverse mix of distinguished guests, industry professionals, Award partners, sponsors, family and friends the night was a successful celebration of the social work profession and the achievements of our outstanding finalists. Beginning with a heartfelt Welcome to Country from Matthew McGuire the Award’s night was full of sincere sentiments expressing nothing but praise and admiration for the social work industry. A jubilant celebration of peer-networking and admiration for one another, social work professionals, sponsors, family and friends gathered around canapés and live music to conclude the night. Awards Patron, CEO of Lotterywest and qualified social worker Jan Stewart described the night as inspirational and was particularly impressed by the professionalism of the event and the recognition the Awards bring to social workers. “It gives me a huge sense of pride in our profession,” she said. “This event values the depth and breadth of the contributions social workers make not only in direct service to their clients but also in their workplace and in the community.” Congratulations go not only to Pippa and our Award winners, but also to all of our nominees, finalists and social work colleagues. As was mentioned more than once on Monday night, it takes someone truly special to become a social worker and as we celebrated the individual achievements of our peers, so too did we celebrate the social work profession and the valuable difference it makes to so many lives and communities across Western Australia.
